Typically, your driver’s licence expires on your birthday every five years. Bring your driver’s licence and another piece of identification when you come into the Southland Registrations office to renew.
At the time of renewal, you must surrender your current licence. A new picture must be taken if your previous picture is more than four years old. In lieu of your driver’s licence, a temporary driver’s licence, valid for 30 days, will be issued stating that your driver’s licence is being printed.
Unfortunately this temporary licence is not valid as identification. Your duplicate driver’s licence will be mailed to your address in 2-3 weeks.
In some cases such as a renewal of a Class 1 or Class 4 driver’s licence, you may be required to submit extra documentation such as a medical examination form or visual referral. This requirement will be listed on your driver’s licence renewal notice. If you have any questions about these requirements or have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 403-255-3653. We would be happy to clarify any questions you might have.
